Apple announced today the new MacBook Pro. One of the most interesting features is the Thunderbolt port. This technology, developed by Intel (under the code name Light Peak), allows you to daisy-chain several compatible devices through just one port with data speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

New MacBook Pro with ThunderboltThe configuration possibilities make it so that noisy peripherals can be placed away from your laptop, out of sight. The speed of the port makes it possible to transfer a full-length HD movie in just 30 seconds (according to Intel’s site).

For more information on the new MacBook Pro, see Apple’s MacBook Pro page.

Intel has a description of the underlying technology for Thunderbolt/Light Peak.
