Facebook Unavailable – Day 6

by David on October 10, 2009

Okay… Facebook has not allowed me to log in to my account for 6 days now. As you can see, they are calling it a bug. (See the last line of the pink box below):

Cloud Computing

Are you using Cloud Computing or Cloud Storage provided by a third party to supply your business with mission-critical IT? If so, how comfortable are you with your provider’s service level? Do you know the redundancy built in to your provider’s data center(s)?

I am learning that when a third party controls a portion of my communication, I had better have redundancy built in to my network of friends.

Social Media

It’s not “only” social media anymore, but rather, an integral part of every aspect of our lives. From family pictures to business presence, Facebook and other social media sites have become ubiquitous in our lives. So as we come to depend upon them, it is also important to have “Plan B” available.

For me, “Plan B” is a combination of Twitter, iPhone SMS, my wife’s Facebook account, blogs and other communication methods. We are not going to use smoke signals anytime soon, but it is funny how much texting I have been doing over the past 6 days!

Come on, Facebook! Let’s get that bug squashed, okay? LOL :)
